MaraDNS - Open Source DNS

MaraDNS is a package that implements the Domain Name Service (DNS), an essential internet service. MaraDNS is open source software. People like MaraDNS because it's small, lightweight, easy to set up, and remarkably secure. It's also cross platform -- the program runs both in Windows and in UNIX clones. MaraDNS is a finished and stable project and there are no plans to add new features at this time. MaraDNS support (including bug reports) is available on a limited basis on the MaraDNS mailing list.

MaraDNS uses about 5MB of RAM as opposed to 90-100MB. MaraDNS provides separation of recursive name server and authoritative name server i.e., if you only need an authoritative name server for your domain names you can skip starting up the recursive name server service.
